Testing the BIM water or full BIM for landscape immersion?

Diving into BIM for landscape design

With you at every stage and supporting the way you use our CAD and Revit tools in landscape design

Ask a landscape design professional what BIM means to them and expect the broadest of answers. Chances are, if they are designing, placemaking or preparing and submitting masterplans in the commercial and public arena, they will be at the very least, aware of the concept of BIM – and will be trying to adapt their existing software and practices to suit. At one end of the spectrum, every part of their design workflows will have their BIM ethos interwoven; from data input, to reporting, collaborating and generating complex and visually impactful 3D models and scenarios. At the other end of the spectrum, for those versed in garden design, BIM may be passing them by completely – if their client is not demanding the principles of BIM for a collaborative workflow it just might not seem relevant. Most practitioners will probably be somewhere in between the two extremes.

For the BIM-aware landscape designer or architect, it does not necessarily mean they are embracing BIM for landscape in every stroke of their designs just yet. At CloudScapes, we support clients who are at very different steps of their BIM journeys. We recognise each client also has different priorities along the way and fine-tune our training, support and development accordingly.

ArtisanRV has been developed to enable and empower landscape design within a REVIT environment. Where the ArtisanRV REVIT plugin really excels for those on the quest for BIM for landscape, is in its information-rich planting modelling tools – single, linear, area – using native REVIT families. Plants, trees, aged growth, rootballs and tree pits, canopies and shadows – all can be designed, visualised and modelled within a fully collaborative BIM workflow which can be manipulated in, above and below ground, on topos and floors, for data analysis, interrogation, clash detection, visualisation and presentation.

How do you use yours?
